First Map – NiP Match Up Against Fnatic in the ESL One Cologne Grand Final

The third major in CSGO sees the two historic organisations Ninjas in Pyjamas and Fnatic match up in a game of the ages.

The grand final saw the maps Nuke and Mirage vetoed, leaving Cobblestone to be played first, NiP on terrorist, NiP choose Cache with Fnatic starting CT side and finally Inferno to be the decider with Fnatic as CT.

Fnatic took the first pistol round with KRIMZ getting a knife kill on to Xizt. That took the game to a 3-0 lead in the favour of Fnatic after two ecos from NiP. friberg and f0rest then took the first buy round from Fnatic at the B bombsite. NiP followed their buy round win with a couple of round wins taking it to 3-3.

Bouncing back strong Fnatic then took a further 6 rounds off NiP before NiP could reply, 9-4. NiP then ran out of time in the 14th round leaving Fnatic to take 10 rounds CT side. Fnatic then went on to take the final round of the half making it 11-4.

NiP took the all important pistol round in the second half, converting the eco rounds, 11-7. NiP also got the buy round on the more favoured CT side which allowed them to take another round against the eco of Fnatic, 11-9. Fifflaren stepped up in the next buy round getting a nice few kills from the back of A site with the awp to give NiP the round.

Fnatic tried to do the same thing as the previous round, Fifflaren couldn’t get the frags again putting his team in to a 2v2, however friberg then got an absolutely huge 2v1 clutch which was followed by a pause due to PC issues. He’s definitely been the man of the tournament.

Fnatic then took the B bombsite twice but couldn’t hold it against the Ninjas, 13-11 NiP. Trying to take their first round of the second half Fnatic went towards A but still couldn’t take the bombsite, the NiP hold was simply too strong.

NiP seemed like a completely different team as they won 11 rounds in a row to take them to match point and then the final round to win straight after, 16-11.
