Spodek Arena to host US$30,000 ESL Hearthstone Legendary Series competition

ESL, the world’s largest esports company, is set to gather the best gamers across multiple disciplines this March 12-14 in the Spodek Arena (Katowice, Poland). Now boasting a US$30,000 Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft™ tournament, ESL Hearthstone Legendary Series Katowice, the total prize money for esports competition is well over US$600,000.

Eight of the best Hearthstone players from around the world will battle it out at the Intel Extreme Masters Expo after having made their way through a challenging online qualifier. Invited to the online tournament are eight contenders that have been selected based on past experience along with a further eight that have qualified from the United States, Europe and Poland. Those who make their way to Katowice will receive 2015 Hearthstone World Championship qualification points. Information on lineups and qualifiers will be released in the coming days.

“ESL Legendary Series Katowice is a very important stop for all professional Hearthstone players this year. Not only does it give players the chance to earn themselves 2015 Hearthstone World Championship qualification points, it also presents an opportunity for professionals to showcase their skills on one of Europe’s most well-known stages,” said Krzysztof Pikiewicz, Managing Director at ESL. “Katowice plays host to Europe’s most successful esports event year-on-year and 2015 will see the biggest celebration of the scene yet. The ESL Legendary Series Katowice and just the event in general is not to be missed!”

Sponsoring the stand-alone ESL Legendary Series Katowice event are both Intel and HP. Intel who are currently in their ninth year of sponsoring Intel Extreme Masters, the longest esports sponsorship in existence, will be present at the venue with partner booths as well as their elite pro gaming tour, which they share with ESL. Meanwhile, HP’s involvement marks the first time that the hardware giants have sponsored an esports event.
