Koelnmesse GmbH, BIU – the Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software and Ukie, UK Interactive Entertainment, seal a partnership for gamescom 2015
The United Kingdom is the official partner country of gamescom 2015. As such, under the direction of the United Kingdom trade body, Ukie, one of the highest turnover markets of the computer and video game industry and one of the biggest locations for the development of video games in Europe will take centre stage at gamescom. The association, Ukie, aims to support, expand and promote the whole of the United Kingdom’s games and interactive entertainment industry. With over 260 members, the association supports developers and publishers of computer and video games from promising start-up companies through to the big studios, platform holders and multinational publishers. As the partner country of gamescom, the United Kingdom represents the international exhibitor community at the world’s biggest event for interactive games and entertainment taking place in Cologne from 5 to 9 August.
“gamescom and Ukie have enjoyed a constructive and very stable partnership for many years. In 2015, with the United Kingdom as the partner country we are setting a further milestone in the cooperation and are reinforcing gamescom as the leading European business location of the computer and video games industry. We are delighted to have won over the United Kingdom under the direction of Ukie as the official partner of gamescom,” explained Katharina C. Hamma, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse.
“The economic and cultural significance of computer and video games was recognized much earlier in the United Kingdom than in Germany. The result is that the United Kingdom is not only one of the most important markets worldwide, but it is also one of the most important locations for the development of computer and video games. This is why we are striving to strengthen the relationships between the German and British industries. Furthermore, the German economic policy can learn a great deal from the United Kingdom, in order to strengthen this future-oriented media industry in Germany,” said Dr. Maximilian Schenk, Managing Director of BIU.
Ukie CEO, Dr. Jo Twist, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with BIU to make the UK the official country partner for this year’s gamescom and to once again run the official UK stand at this year’s gamescom. gamescom is Europe’s premier stage for UK companies to meet business partners and investors from around the world. With record numbers of UK businesses attending and the UK being confirmed as official country partner thanks to support from UKTI we’re making a real statement about the UK being one of the best places in the world to make and sell games.”
The partner country United Kingdom will be officially presented during the Trend Press Conference on gamescom 2015 at the beginning of July, in Berlin.
With 81 exhibitors, Great Britain had the highest number of exhibitors at gamescom 2014. The share of trade visitors from Great Britain was 10 percent, which means they ranked second in the international ranking.
