Machinima creates Xbox One App That Provides Helpful Second Screen Style Menu

Machinima’s Xbox One app will make searching for related, helpful content (such as guides and walkthroughs) even more seamless when the Xbox One launches in November.

The app will deliver curated gaming videos to the Xbox One using the console’s new Snap feature, which allows one app to run alongside another app, TV show or video game. The app also works with the Kinect’s voice activation.

Sanjay Sharma, executive vice president of strategy and business development for Machinima, explained that some of the videos from the app will be exclusive to the platform; others will relate to the games being played.

“It can pull up contextually-relevant content, tips and tricks, tutorials,” Sharma said. “As it evolves over time, we’ll know in real time what level you’re in, what moment you are at. It might note, ‘You’ve lost this boss fight 10 times in a row. Here’s how we can help.'”

Sharma added that the team could include Xbox SmartGlass integration for the companion mobile and tablet experience and the ability to see and share impressive gaming videos created by users in the future.

“We may be able to highlight amazing gameplay from around the world,” Sharma said. “For example, we might know from the system architecture that you’ve just had an amazing run. This is transforming the ways games are played.”

The Machinima Xbox 360 app, released in April, was the fastest downloaded app of the year so far, Sharma said, so the company’s continued partnership with Microsoft was natural.

“This is a new generation console that really embodies what Machinima has always been about: being at the intersection of entertainment and gaming,” he said.

The app will be available for download when the Xbox One launches Nov. 22.
