Mortal Kombat X is the newest iteration of the classic popular fighting game that has been incredibly popular since release in 1992. So naturally this seems like a good game to talk about.
The first thing about this new version that caught my eye is the partnership with ESL. This has created a prize pool of $100,000 for the Mortal Kombat X Worldwide Competitive Program, which includes the Fatal 8 Exhibition Tournament, Mortal Kombat X ESL Pro League Tournament and the Mortal Kombat Cup. Which, if you ask me is a huge prize pool for a game that hasn’t been that mainstream in terms of esports, it’s certainly not LoL or CS:GO. Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat said this: “NetherRealm Studios is a huge supporter of the pro fighting game scene and to be able to work with ESL on the Pro League Tournament allows us to take the Mortal Kombat™ X competition beyond what we’ve ever done before. We’ve seen some incredible match-ups in the past and we can’t wait to see what this next level of competition brings.” So I suppose if you like esports and want to play something new on ESL, check out this game.
Now, let’s get in to something a little more interesting about the actual game and not just what ESL is doing. Mortal Kombat is always going to be a good game, simply because it’s a pioneer in it’s field. It’s older than most people on the Internet right now. The gameplay looks cool as hell, the moves are looking awesome as always and I can’t wait to find all the fatalities. I could sit here all day and talk to you about how the game, when released on Tuesday, will be a success, but it’s Mortal Kombat; it’s pretty hard to mess up the game mechanics that really won’t change much.
What is upsetting is the Kombat Pack. It’s another release day DLC pack. In the UK, the Kombat Pack is included in the Mortal Kombat X Premium Edition for £74.99 on PSN, £74.99 on XBL and £59.99 on Steam or buy it on it’s own for £24.99.

I personally wouldn’t purchase this, but I suppose if you like this kind of thing I’m not going to stop you. Microtransactions/DLC can be good for games but I’d prefer it if this made the standalone game a little cheaper and not still £34.99 on Steam.
Since this is effectively just a reskin of previous iterations you can imagine the graphics look good. And they do.
