Indoor vs Outdoor Games

Comment

If you live in a place where the winter and summer months differ tremendously, you might find it hard to come up with compelling pastimes. All the more, if you are a game lover, you surely have a couple of video games on rotation that keep you occupied. But why not expand your horizons a bit more?

This article will introduce you to some of the most attractive and exciting games to play both indoors and outdoors. Whether you are more into video games, casino-like games, or something entirely different, you’ll find a game that suits your preferences here.

Minecraft

You must’ve heard of Minecraft since it’s the best selling video game of all time. Developed by Mojang in 2009, Minecraft is a sandbox video game. The game appeals to a large audience with its 3D procedurally-generated world and pixelated graphics. Players can traverse the massive in-game world to extract raw materials and items, craft tools and weapons, and build structures.

Minecraft can be played in two game modes — against the computer and against other players in the same world. Survival and creative modes are available, so players wanting to spend the cold winter months at home can easily try both modes regardless of their playing preferences.

Minecraft has turned out to be a global phenomenon with many spin-offs and even a Minecraft movie set to be released in 2022.

Street Dice

Street dice or street craps is a game that originated in Las Vegas at the Downtown Grand Casino in 2014. The game is quite similar to the original craps with one difference — it can be played outside. That means you do not need to enter or sign up for a casino as you can enjoy a game of street craps outside without the use of a conventional table. Street dice is the perfect outdoor game as you can play it virtually anywhere.

When it comes to the rules, street dice rules are not challenging to master. The ultimate goal for the player is to predict the outcome of the dice roll. Depending on the setup, the players can decide whether the game is just for fun, a competition, or a betting experience. If you haven’t had any casino experience beforehand, this game might be a good starting point.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

It would be difficult to make a list of top games without including a Nintendo game. Ocarina of Time is an action-adventure game released in 1998, the fifth video game in The Legend of Zelda series, and the first one using 3D graphics.

The player controls Link — a knight with the goal of stopping an evil king by navigating dungeons and travelling through time. This game introduced context-sensitive buttons and target-lock systems that became common in other 3D games that followed.

As the name suggests, the player needs to learn to play numerous tunes on an ocarina to progress in the game. Ocarina of Time is a time-consuming game, but one of the best in the world, making it perfect for enjoying at home.

Firewatch

We saved something very different for the end — a game that can be enjoyed from the comfort of your home but with an outdoor feel. Campo Santo developed this adventure game in 2016, and it quickly gained praise for its story, visual style, characters, and dialogue.

The player steps into the shoes of a fire lookout in the Shoshone National Forest, Wyoming. The only contact he has is via radio with his supervisor, and the story gets only more interesting from there as it meticulously depicts life in the wilderness. The player experiences a race against time, the elements, and their own senses.

Although it’s a “walking simulator,” it’s anything but dull. Firewatch has won numerous prestigious gaming awards.
